New York City is in constant motion. New Yorkers roam around with a soundtrack of what an untrained ear may hear as noise, but when you become a local that noise turns to a low comforting murmur, and that murmur becomes the background to a relaxing day. Why is it that on the hottest day before fall, in this noisy and interestingly aromatic city that my best friend and I choose to wander the streets of Soho? Hint: It’s not that I love the thrill of dodging the speeding Ubers whipping around corners or hopping the interestingly colored puddles on corners. I love surprises, and New York is filled with them.
On this particular day, I was wandering with Shine (my best friend) down the Bowery. I look to the left and see a new tree filled pathway. We are deprived of trees in New York, so naturally I walk into this oasis. Secret garden restaurant. Check √. Hidden hotel with an inviting lobby I would consider moving into. Check √. This place is called Sister City and has a rooftop! I’m done. We stayed and went up to the rooftop bar, Last Light. The view is lovely, the olives are a must, and the frozen drinks are delicious.
Wander by, head down the tree filled path, and visit Last Light.
225 Bowery.
